The Making
of Your Favorite Flavored Coffees
It seems that coffee has a lot more than a
caffeine boost to offer coffee drinkers these days. Today, you
can choose between flavors like chocolate, blueberry crème,
pumpkin spice, pina colada, and many, many more. There are
virtually hundreds of different varieties to choose from
because with today's technology, flavored coffees can
be produced with almost any flavor imaginable.
There are basically two ways that flavored
coffees are made. The artificial methods of creating the
flavors became necessary because consumer demand for special
flavors, far exceeded what nature and the organically grown
coffee plant can provide naturally.
1. Fresh brewed coffee can be infused with
flavored syrups by pouring the syrup into the coffee pot or
directly in a single cup.
2. Complex flavors are introduced directly
into the coffee as part of the roasting process. Then when
these flavored beans are brewed by the pot, the flavor comes
through in every cup.
Do you have any idea what the four
categories of the flavored coffee beans might be? Well,
the favorite and most popular category, is the chocolate based
flavors. Then there are the fruit-based flavors like melon and
raspberry; the spice-based flavored coffee, such as cinnamon;
and last but not least, the vanilla-based flavored coffee,
which includes the nut-based flavors like hazelnut and
macadamia nut.
If you are an adventuresome coffee drinker,
you can do a bit of flavor creation and experimentation on your
own. You could brew a pot of coffee from any variety of gourmet
coffee beans, and then use gourmet coffee syrups to flavor an
individual cup. Since each flavor syrup is made to have a
unique taste, you could even try mixing more than one coffee
syrup into a cup of coffee. It could lead to quite an adventure
in taste, and turn each cup of coffee you drink into an
exciting medley of flavors. The possible combination of flavors
can be endless, especially if you enjoy flavors that verge on
the sweet side.
Almost any gourmet coffee retailer should
have the flavored coffee syrups and the custom flavored coffee
beans. If you really want to kick it up a notch, buy a coffee
bean roaster, mix and blend some custom flavored coffees, and
then create your own flavored coffee beans. Drink and enjoy
your own special flavored coffee, one delicious cup at a
time.
